Holy Week
Archidona’s Holy Week is a religious festivity of great tradition, declared National Tourist Interest Festivity. It dates back to the 16th century and it stands out due to its solemn processions and unique traditions, like:
– The Bell Ringers: they establish the rythm of the marches.
– The Apostolate: twelve figures that symbolize the twelve apostles.
– The Embassy of the Angel and the Sermon of the Descent: religious theatrical representations.
– The Zumba: an unique instrument that announces Christ’s falls.
It also includes a Children’s Holy Week, in which the little ones can participate. It is a profoundly rooted and distinctive celebration in the province of Malaga.
Dog Fair
Archidona’s Dog Fair is an unique event with a deep repercussion on a national level as a trade fair as well as a sale fair. It is also the meeting point for professionals in the sector as well as for tourists, with a focus on responsible breeding as well as animal comfort. It was proclaimed as an Event of Tourist Interest in Andalusia in 1998, and Tourist Singularity Fair of the Province of Malaga.
Saint Isidore Festivities
This pilgrimage is held in the districts of Estación de Salinas and Huertas del Río in honor of the patron saint of farmers. It brings neighbors together in a festive atmosphere rich in tradition.
Night Pilgrimage
Declared a Festival of Provincial Tourist Interest by the Málaga Provincial Council. Thousands of faithful devotees accompany the image of the Patroness to the Hermitage-Sanctuary of the Virgin of Grace.
Descent of the Patroness
The final event of Archidona’s summer cycle. The Patroness’s Brotherhood processes her image to Santa Ana Parish for a novena, accompanied by devoted worshippers.
August Royal Fair
Archidona’s major summer event begins on the night of August 14 and ends on the 18th with fireworks. Its origins are tied to the end of the harvest, starting with the lighting of 4,000-bulb arches. Highlights include the Opening Speech (Pregón), poster unveiling, Poetry Contest, and the naming of the Corregidoras. The fair offers booths, music, folklore, horse parades, tastings, and areas for both children and seniors. The Repiques magazine is also published, featuring articles, greetings, schedules, and cultural content. It’s a celebration rich in tradition, community, and popular culture.
